Description
When the Amden Weesen region glistens in a white winter landscape, it's the right time for an excursion in the snow. The Vorder Höhi winter hiking trail is an easy route to take a deep breath - unique views included!
Former Pass Crossing with Panoramic Views
The route begins in the village of Arvenbüel and first climbs through the Heiggenwald forest to Alp Altschen. From there, it runs continuously in the sun over the snow-covered Alpine landscape to the Vorder Höhi pass. This pass crossing into Toggenburg briefly gained in importance in the 1970s when the access road from Weesen to Amden was endangered by an impending rockfall and had to be closed. The military quickly built an emergency road, which is now only used by hikers and cyclists.
Ideal for a Stop-Off
From the Vorder Höhi, the view sweeps over Toggenburg to the Alpstein and the Churfirsten. The alpine inn invites hikers to stop for a coffee or snack. On the way back, the Leistkamm makes up a breathtaking panorama. Just a fantastic winter hike!
